As we can notice the adjectives are words that describe nouns and they can be presented in different grades, one of them is:

Comparatives

They are adjectives used in order to compare two person or things.

Example

The lemon is bitter than the orange.

the comparative is formed by adding "er" to the adjective, also it follow some rules one of them is related to the adjective ended, if it ends in "e" , it will add only "r".

Example:

 Coconut is coarser than watermelon.

Another rule says that if the adjective ends in “y” after a consonant it changes into “i” and added “er”.

Example

The chili pepper is spicier than pepper

Comparatives and superlatives

Superlative

They are adjetives used in order to indicate one end in a group of things.

Example

The mango is the sweetest fruit I have eaten.

The superlative is formed by adding "est" to the adjective, If it ends en "e", It will add est to the adjective.

Example

The coconut has the coarsest hull

If the adjective is two syllables or more, you should use "the most"  instead of add "est".

Example:

Fruits and vegetables are the most balanced diet in order to be healthy.
